Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum are reminding residents to stay local and follow the lockdown rules, ahead of the weekend.
Advertising message vans will be touring the county’s popular spots this weekend, focusing on areas that have been seeing high numbers of residents in recent days and weeks. The vans will be displaying reminders that people are only permitted to mix alone with one other member of another household, and only for exercise.
People should also remember to stay local to where they live and only leave their home for essential exercise or shopping.
Surrey now has one of the highest infection rates per 100,000 people in the UK. The infection rate across the county increased by 46 percent between the periods 19th-25th December 2020 and 26th December 2020-1st January 2021.
The latest figures show that cases continue to rise across the whole county, and residents must remain vigilant to slow any spread of the virus. The best way to prevent the spread of the virus is to adhere to the following guidance:
- Stay at home and only leave for essential exercise or shopping
- Keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
- Wear face coverings
- Wash your hands regularly
Chair of Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum, Steve Owen-Hughes, said: “We need everyone to play their part at this critical point. Cases have been rising and there is no doubt that the virus is more transmissible than it was before.
“Therefore, it’s vitally important that we all stick to the rules and stay at home. If you’re heading out for exercise, please stay local to where you live and do not mix in groups.”
