On 9 March, the Government published a Call for Evidence as part of a review of how to improve safety for all road users.
Anne Milton, Guildford’s MP, is encouraging local people to respond to the Consultation and to make sure their voices are heard.
Anne said: “There is a lot of concern about our roads in Guildford, Cranleigh and the villages, and this presents a good opportunity to get some joined-up thinking. As a cyclist myself, I am very aware of the need to make our roads safer for cycling and want to encourage more people to get out there walking and on their bikes. It leads to so many positive benefits for everyone – improved air quality, mental and physical wellbeing and a reduction in congestion on our roads. Please respond so that local views across Cranleigh and Guildford are well represented.”
The Call for Evidence is available via this link and will close on 1 June 2018.
An independent report which considers the case for a new offence where careless or dangerous cycling causes serious injury or death has just been published. The report by Laura Thomas of Birketts is available via this link.
The Government’s response to this report will be published in due course.
