From Surrey News
This year’s annual Surrey Armed Forces Covenant Conference is being held online on Thursday 18 March from 10am until 1pm, celebrating partnerships and our joint work to support our armed forces, their families as well as ex-service personnel and veterans,
These challenging times have highlighted the invaluable impact of organisation and community collaboration and illustrated the incredible things that can be achieved when we work together to support one another. Recognising this, hosts Surrey County Council and the Surrey Civilian Military Partnership Board (SCMPB), have themed this year’s conference “The Power of Partnership”. The discussions will focus on two key areas:
- the partnership with the military when responding to Covid-19 and the support provided to the wider community including veterans
- the proposed Covenant legislation, military priorities and improving connections with our armed forces community
Speakers at the conference include High Sheriff of Surrey Shahid Azeem DL, Steve Owen-Hughes from Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum, Col John Baynham OBE from 11 Infantry Brigade, Professor Jan Walker OBE from Newcastle University, Ginnie Dallard MBE from KBR and many more.
Armed Forces Champion and Chairman of the Surrey Civilian-Military Partnership Board, Peter Martin said, “Every member of the armed forces community be they current or ex-service members, including family members need to feel that they are supported and treated fairly in whatever they do.
“Whether its accessing services, seeking civilian employment or supporting reservists to carry out their role, the Surrey County Council and SCMPB help us do this. It is so important that those providing the support for them are fully informed, confident and kept up to date.
“It’s an infinite loop; we support them, because either they’ve already supported the country or so that they can. All employers, Chief Executives and business managers who support the armed forces should consider this conference as beneficial to their organisation.”
