Whilst many people have contacted Guildford's MP, Anne Milton, about the Local Plan, they were some areas in Guildford where fewer people had been in touch. A survey was sent to those areas to find out what local people thought.
Anne said: ‘It was great to get a response from so many people and they made a clear distinction between what issues were important to them and their families, and what issues were important to the country as a whole.
The NHS scored highly on both counts. Only a quarter of people felt immigration was important to them and their family, although two-thirds thought it was important to the country as a whole.
Over three-quarters of people agreed that dealing with Britain’s deficit and debt is the only way to get back to a strong economy.
Moving onto housing, 9 out of 10 people felt that homes in Guildford were not affordable. Almost two-thirds felt that we needed more homes. However, if you break that group down to those that own and those that rent their home, just over half of those that own their own home felt that we needed more homes. In comparison over three-quarters of those that rent their own home felt we needed more homes. Almost three-quarters felt that we needed more 2-3 bedroom homes.’
