After 33 years, Sport for All is still going strong at the Guildford Spectrum! This event which was held on Saturday was started in 1981, the Year of the Disabled. Sport for All is a chance for people of all abilities to join in and try new activities ranging from archery, to abseiling to cycling and there is something for everyone to try, whatever their ability or disability. Local MP, Anne Milton, joined a tour of the events that took place on Saturday.
Anne said: “Sport for All Day is a chance to see our local leisure centre put on a display of the huge range of activities that are on offer in the area for all. Particular praise goes out to the organisers of this very special day in the year. I would like to pay tribute to Tony Gorham MBE, the late Cllr Ralph Jordan and his wife Cllr Jenny Jordan without whom Sport for All would never have got off the ground and it is still going strong today.
"A commitment to the belief that sport should be enjoyed by everyone is what drove them on 33 years ago. It is that commitment, the support from Guildford Borough Council and the hundreds of volunteers involved on the day that make this possible. What a fantastic day - a huge well done to all!”
