The Chairman of Guildford Conservative Association has paid tribute to the late Lady Thatcher.
Cllr Alan Young said:
"Margaret Thatcher was a true conviction politician who smashed through the glass ceiling of politics to become the Britain's first woman prime minister. She helped the country to stand tall again after it was crippled by the unions and she spread wealth across society like no other prime minister.
She defined an era for so many people in this country in striving unceasingly to fight for the fundamental values she held dear.
The economic turnaround of the United Kingdom, the ending of the Cold War, the spread of mass home ownership and share ownership, through an ambitious programme of privatisation, will be her legacy.
Margaret Thatcher was proud to take a housewife's approach to politics in a then male dominated world. She understood the importance of good housekeeping, paying attention to detail and making ends meet and was not afraid to speak her mind.
As she famously said, 'If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.' "
