Worplesdon

Your local Conservative candidates for Worplesdon ward are Bilal Akhtar, Philip Brooker and Honor Brooker.

Bill Akhtar:

Bilal Akhtar, known as Bill, lives in Guildford and I will be standing as one of the Conservative candidates in Worplesdon.

Vote for Bill if you want to be heard about your real local issues and concerns which affect your daily life.

If elected, Bill will conduct quarterly ward surgeries where he will listen to the local community and residents in Worplesdon. He will work hard to ensure the council deals with the issues that matter to residents.

Bill’s aim is to work closely with Worplesdon Parish Council and our Surrey County Councillor, Keith Witham, and work hard to represent Fairlands, Jacobs Well, Perry Hill, Wood Street Village and the areas of Broadacres and Oakfields, which make up the Worplesdon Ward of Guildford Borough Council.

Honor Brooker:

Honor has lived in Guildford for 40 years. Following an early career in aviation, she retrained at Surrey University to become a registered nurse and currently works in ICU at the Royal Surrey Hospital. During her career she has been chair of the organ donation committee and has been involved in much charity work associated with raising funds for various hospital departments.

If elected, Honor would be a strong conservative voice for the people of Worplesdon and local Community Groups supporting better bus services, greater traffic control of speeding motorists, whilst opposing further major housebuilding.

At a Borough level Honor would work hard to restore the morale at the Council Offices which has led to major staff losses and £32M being spent by the current council on “consultants”. Honor would champion the local economy by opposing the proposed town centre congestion charge and reduce parking charges encouraging footfall and tourism.

Philip Brooker:

Philip is a Chartered Surveyor and has lived in Guildford for 40 years. He is an experienced Guildford Councillor and held an executive portfolio covering housing and homelessness. He instigated a plan to build 100 social houses a year for key workers, all on Council owned brownfield land. This initiative has sadly been dropped by the Lib Dem / R4GV current Council.

Philip supports the proposed A3 tunnel underneath Guildford to improve air quality and congestion, and would wish to restore Council Services including planning, response times and events such as the Christmas lights switch-on. Hes oppose the current Lib Dem / R4GV’s proposals for a town centre congestion charge and their proposals for tower blocks in the town centre.

In Worplesdon Philip will oppose any further major development and lobby for better bus services and better local sports facilities whilst working with residents to resolve local issues.
