Onslow

Your local Conservative candidates for Onslow ward are Shamsul Alam, Adrian Chandler and Adam Ekinci.

 

Shamsul Alam:

Hailed from a Bangladeshi family, Shamsul Alam (aka Sam) was born in St Luke’s hospital, Guildford in the early ’70s, and has lived in Onslow area all his life. Sam is married to Ms. Syeda and they are blessed with a son and a daughter.

Sam has a diverse career in Business, Politics, & Social activities both in Bangladesh and in the UK. Shamsul inherited the family catering business, which was the oldest curry house in Guilford, and currently owns his cafe named The Smooth. Sam organises Bangladeshi fairs and sports events in the community. Sam is studying health and social care and believes in positivity through meditation and spirituality. As a Silva graduate Shamsul is also a coordinator of Cosmic Healers Global.

Community spirit is most important to Sam and, if elected, he wants to prioritise projects that will make it easier for residents to connect with each other.

 

Adrian Chandler:

Adrian Chandler has lived in Onslow Village for 40 years. He is a retired IT Consultant with experience in Insurance, retail, air transport and telecommunications.

Adrian served as borough councillor for Onslow 2011 to 2019 and served on the Planning, Corporate Governance and Scrutiny committees. He served on the Tenants Action group, a working party for The Electric Theatre and on the Wanborough Barn committee. Adrian secured the finance to upgrade the Onslow Recreation play area and promoted the council backed scheme to enable residents to plant and maintain a garden on council owned land in Palmers Lodge. So successful was this, it was featured in Guildford In Bloom.

If elected. Adrian wants to review and make changes to the controlled parking zone to adjust areas which the residents aren’t happy with. Adrian fully supports the proposed Guildford East and Guildford West stations and wants to see these commenced.

 

Adrian Ekinci:

Adam is an entrepreneur who has lived in Onslow for over 20 years. Formerly working in retail, e-commerce and banking, Adam’s main business is now in landscaping. Adam has attended school at Onslow Infant, Queen Eleanors and Guildford County. He also has master’s degree in finance and accounting from Imperial College London. In his spare time he likes to socialise with friends, play squash and learn to fly.

If elected, Adam will work hard to represent Onslow residents on Guildford Borough Council
