Your local Conservative candidates for Merrow ward are David Humphries, Christopher Jay and Katie Lam.
Katie Lam:
Katie Lam has been based in Guildford most of her life.
Katie believes Guildford Borough Council must be better: if elected, she would use her experience in business and national government to drive urgent improvements in productivity and customer service. She would also introduce clearer planning guidance to ensure developments are true to local character (especially not too tall!). Katie would be dedicated to boosting the vibrancy of our town centre, where people from all over Guildford and its surrounding villages come together.
Local community suffered during the pandemic and only she and other Conservative councillors will do what's necessary to get the town flourishing: binning the Lib Dem / R4GV congestion charge proposal, reducing town centre parking to £1 an hour, bringing back the turning on of the Christmas lights, and much more. Guildford needs a strong and dynamic centre so its businesses and culture can thrive.
David Humphries:
David is a Chartered Accountant working for a multinational renewable energy company and has lived in Guildford for over 30 years.
During that time, he has developed an appreciation of the ethos of the town and would work with local residents to maintain it. He says, “Guildford is a wonderful town and I see it as being in all of our interests to leave it as a better place than we found it.”
David has a keen interest in sustainability. Improving the recycling capabilities and preserving the environment would be key interests for him. David would also hope to be able to use his skills to ensure that Guildford residents obtain value for money for their council tax.
