A sports centre in Guildford received a top accolade this week. Surrey Sports Centre was awarded the Community Benefit honour at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) South East Awards.
Annually RICS celebrate outstanding achievement within a built in environment, in a range of projects where property experts have demonstrated state of the art expertise and excellence in four categories – building conservation; community benefit; regeneration; and sustainability. Surrey Sports Centre will now compete with regional winners across the country at the RICS Awards grand final in October.
Speak about the Surrey Sport Centre’s award, Anne Milton MP said: "It is absolutely fantastic to have a facility of Surrey Sport’s Centre’s standard in Guildford. The benefits of sports for health and community are undeniable and I am extremely happy that there has been recognition of this by RICS. I wish the Centre the best of luck in the final – they deserve to win!
"We are very lucky to have not only Surrey Sport’s Centre but also the Spectrum and the fantastic newly furbished Leisure Centre at Cranleigh. We must make sure we make the most of them!"
