The Olympic Torch will be returning to Guildford for the first time since 1948, 63 years ago, when thousands lined the streets to catch a glimpse.
The 2012 Olympic Torch relay will once again be paraded through Guildford on July 20th next year with a large celebration planned for the evening in Stoke Park. The new Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Terence Patrick, estimates that around 200 people will be involved in the show.
Speaking about the return of the Olympic Torch to Guildford, Anne Milton MP said: I am absolutely thrilled that the Olympic Torch is coming to Guildford. It’s one of those things I’ve always wanted to see and be involved with and I’m very excited about the whole event.
I know that that many Guildford residents will feel the same way so it will be a fantastic community event and I sure we will get the same numbers on the streets as in 1948. I can’t wait!"
