Surrey County Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese Olympic Committee’s Tennis Federation for its team to train in the County prior to the London 2012 Olympics.
Denise Saliagopoulos, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services and the 2012 Games said: “I’m very pleased that the Chinese Tennis Association have chosen Surrey for their pre-training next year. Surrey has signed a number of countries for 2012 pre-training and it is very exciting that China is coming to Surrey as their tennis players are growing in stature on the international tennis stage. I believe it is a real coup for Surrey on top of the two Olympic cycling events we already have and shows that Surrey has excellent facilities for these elite athletes and close proximity to London Heathrow and Gatwick Airports and the Olympic tennis venue in Wimbledon.”
Mrs Saliagopoulos signed the Memorandum with Mrs Sun Jinfang, the Director of the Tennis Administrative Centre of General Administration of Sport of China, Administrative Vice President of the Chinese Tennis Association and Executive Board Member of the Chinese Olympic Committee (See picture).
