Anne Milton has once again voiced her support for the ‘Close the Door’ campaign in Guildford, which urges town centre shops and businesses to close their doors in cold weather.
Last winter, Anne wrote to a number of retailers in Guildford about the campaign, and tabled a written question to the Department of for Business, Innovation and Skills asking: “What is he doing to encourage retailers to reduce their carbon emissions, and what representations has he received about the ‘close the door’ campaign and will he make a statement.”
Renewing her support for the campaign Anne Milton, Guildford’s MP said: “I supported this fantastic campaign last winter as climate change is something I feel strongly about and I am pleased that Guildford Borough Council are also urging local retailers to keep their doors closed this winter. It’s so wasteful to leave shop doors open in cold weather and let all that warm air and energy pour out and we certainly wouldn’t do it at home! It is important to remember that everyone can make a difference to climate change and even a small change such as closing a door can make a big impact; there are cost benefits for retailers too as energy bills are reduced. I know how frustrated people get when they walk around town and see hot air and energy pouring out onto the street so I hope that everyone in Guildford will get behind this campaign so that we can all do our bit to reduce CO2 and save energy!”
