Anne Milton MP was delighted to hear that Guildford Borough Council has presented Surrey Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, with a cheque for £4,412.
These funds will go towards building a peaceful and secluded babies memorial garden at Guildford Crematorium, where bereaved families can remember their children.
Surrey Sands is a local, self-funded group within the nationwide charity. They support anyone affected by the death of a baby and it is run by volunteers who are all bereaved parents themselves.
The plans are to extend the existing garden to include a section for memorials and the laying to rest of children's ashes as well as adding in child friendly planting, seating and themed features.
Surrey Sands have a target of £25,000 for this project and if you would like to support the project, you can donate at www.justgiving.com/Guildford-Babies-Memorial-Garden
Anne said: ‘As a Minister in the Department of Health, I worked closely with SANDS nationally and locally. I am very aware that there are many families who have been affected by the death of a baby in and around Guildford. SANDS do a wonderful job and I know just how valuable a memorial garden would be. It is a special place for special babies whose lives were sadly much too short. Please donate generously!’
