Anne's Christmas message
“This last year has been one of those that you couldn't predict if you tried! Winning in Guildford at the General Election in May has been my personal highlight. I am incredibly grateful for the ongoing support I’ve had and my thanks to everyone who gave their time and their vote!
In Westminster, becoming a Minister and being part of the Coalition government has been both exciting and challenging but we still have a long way to go. Although unexpected, a coalition Government has been given wholehearted support from most people I speak to in Guildford. There have been difficult decisions but we have set a course to help our economy to grow in the future.
In Guildford there have been so many wonderful achievements this year; from Summer Fairs to beautiful carol services. For me, abseiling down Guildford Cathedral for Crossroads Care was an unforgettable, if not daunting experience! The ‘Hidden Guildford’ reception at the Speaker’s House in March was an opportunity to showcase work with the most vulnerable members of our community and I was so proud to be part of it.
Locally, across the constituency there are issues still to resolve - our new community hospital in Cranleigh, the Slyfield regeneration project, the transport & infrastructure problems and indeed how we manage these difficult economic times. However, I would never underestimate the resourcefulness of local people.
I am here with my team to help if ever you have a personal issue or just want to keep in touch. Once again, thank you for all your support this year and I look forward to working hard for Guildford, Cranleigh and our villages in 2011 and the years to come!
Anne”
