Local MP, Anne Milton, has welcomed the additional £640 million into the Post Office network which will build on the Post Office’s branch modernisation and support programme.
There will be a dedicated fund of £20 million to invest in smaller community branches, which are not suitable for conversion to local or main models under the current modernisation programme. These branches are often at the heart of relatively isolated communities and often operate as the only retail outlet in the community. The money dedicated to these branches could be used, for example, to invest in new equipment, change the layout of branches and improve signs.
Two branches in the Guildford constituency, Jacob Wells and Shamley Green have recently been designated as community Post Office branches.
Anne said: “Post offices are the lifeblood of our local communities and I am delighted to hear that the Jacob Wells and Shamley Green Post Offices have been designated as community branches. They will both therefore benefit from the Post Office’s £20 million modernisation programme. It is great that these branches will receive investment, continue to be a much needed facility for local people whether old or young and bring a boost to sub-postmasters. Great news!”
